Dearing Elementary had their first Learning Walk which celebrated the successes of the Growing Readers Initiative. Dr. Cato . McDuffie County`s Curriculum Director, Stacey Amerson (Principal), Sonya Thomas (Assistant Principal) and Denise Turner (Instructional Coach) joined Debbie Callan, the Growing Readers Specialist, visit readers in a Kindergarten, First and Second grade classroom.
The Learning Walk Team made a list of noticings and wonderings as they visited each classroom during Independent Reading and observed the classroom teacher confer with a number of readers.
The Learning Walk Team left each teacher a sticky note positive message and then met as a team to debrief what they noticed, what they wondered, and what the next steps should be to continue creating a culture of readers at DES! Kudos to Ms. Tokar, Mrs. Mitchell, and Mrs. Ogletree and their readers for putting a lot of smiles on the faces of the Learning Walk Team!
